Educating You for YOUR Life

Learning by Doing serves students who are self-motivated and self-directed, goal-oriented, responsible, self-disciplined, and academically able. Students seeking a small, personal learning environment where the focus is on learning with a blend of traditional and non-traditional practices may find a home at Learning by Design’s Learning by Doing.

We provide learning that is:

  • Personal – Individual plans focus learning on each student’s unique interests, needs, abilities, and future goals. Students are active participants in determining their own learning processes and are guided by an Advisor personally invested in their success.
  • Relevant – Students learn essential knowledge and skills through “real-world” application and experiences.
  • Rigorous – All learning incorporates Kansas academic standards. Students must achieve in 5 goal areas: Quantitative Reasoning (math concepts); Empirical Reasoning (scientific concepts); Communication (oral and written communications; literacy concepts); Social Reasoning (social science concepts); and Personal Qualities (life and work skill concepts).
  • Authentic – Learning through internships and community service are key to how students learn. Students demonstrate personal and academic growth through use of daily journals, portfolios, personal narratives, and presentation and exhibitions of work.
  • Principled – Students, parents, and staff are a team in developing and maintaining a culture of respect, diversity, creativity, excitement, inclusion, passion, reflection, and academic achievement. All members of the LBD community share in its leadership and growth through positive participation.
